Why Doesn't The Car Horn Sound?

Why Doesn't The Car Horn Sound?

A car horn is a device that is frequently used when driving. If it often appears single monophonic sound, poor sound, and sometimes no sound at all, it causes a lot of inconvenience to the car owner. What should I do if the car horn does not sound or makes a strange sound? How does the car horn perform routine maintenance and self-repair? When the above-mentioned fault occurs, should it be distinguished first between the line fault and the fault of the horn itself?

Let's take a look at how the speaker works. When the horn button on the steering wheel or other positions is pressed, the current from the battery will flow through the loop to the electromagnetic coil of the horn relay. The electromagnetic coil attracts the relay's moving contact switch to close, and the current will flow to the horn. The current causes the electromagnet inside the horn to work, which causes the diaphragm to vibrate to make a sound.

Line faults are mainly failed line connections, such as loose horn plug terminals, horn relay contact ablation, and poor contact of the horn switch at the steering wheel. However, in many horn failures, especially in winter, the horn itself is the most problematic.

Combining with our use environment and other factors, the failure of the speaker itself is mainly due to the following reasons:

1. Contact ablation: If you press the horn for a long time, it will easily cause the horn contact to ablate and generate impedance, the current flowing through the electromagnetic coil will weaken, and the decrease in electromagnetic suction will not attract the armature to drive the diaphragm to vibrate normally, resulting in hoarse or even no sound. However, when the speaker is constantly pressed, if the strong current passes through the impedance, it can still work normally, so it will be sometimes good and sometimes bad.

2. The seal is not tight and easy to get wet: Although the inside of the horn is sealed, if the seal is not tightly washed into the mist or there is water vapor in the air in the internal space, the water vapor may easily cause the contact to get wet and not work properly.

3. Poor contact of electromagnetic coil terminals: Some internal electromagnetic coil enameled wire terminal connectors of horns are crimped by aluminum metal rivets. They are not firmly welded. If the insulating varnish on the end of the enameled wire is not clean or the rivets are not firmly crimped, it is easy to produce. Virtual connection failure, resulting in poor speaker operation. This kind of failure is due to the quality of the horn and cannot be repaired. You can only replace it with a new one.

Suggestions for using car speakers:
 1. Remember to prevent the horn from getting wet when washing the car, and use the air gun to dry the horn as soon as possible.

2. Try not to press the horn for a long time, as this will easily cause the horn contacts to ablate prematurely.

3. If a speaker fails, try to seek the help of a professional maintenance technician. Do not replace the speaker blindly, it is easy to cause unnecessary waste.
